Abandoned Shoes: Under the Stairs

I found this sneaker on a July 13, under a staircase leading up to the Hill District.

It’s among some assorted garbage — a crumpled M&Ms wrapper and an emptied Slurpie cup — but it’s hard to know whether the garbage and the shoe are connected.

Did the wearer sneak under the staircase to enjoy a snack in the shade on a sunny day, and dump his shoe along with the garbage in an associative fit? Or did a man enjoying the shade under the staircase get struck in the head by some garbage dropped from above, and remove his shoe to throw it back at the passing litterer, only to lose his nerve?

We may never know, but three days later I found this pair under a staircase in Troy Hill.
